There are no limits to which
powers of privilege will not go
to keep the workers in slavery.

“Will Papa Die”
“Written for the Appeal to Reason by Col. Dick Maple,
editor of The National Rip-Saw.
Sing to the tune of “Hold the Fort.”
Ho! my comrades, see the signal flaunting in the West;
See the hateful scaffold building-all at Greed’s behest.
See those boys of Colorado; hear their martyr’s cry;
Hear “Bill” Haywood’s little baby ask, “Will Papa die?”
CHORUS.
Oh! ye lads of Fair Columbia, listen to the cry;
Hear that fair-haired babe of Haywood’s ask, “Will Papa die?”
Shall the West, the land of Freedom, build a cross of gold
To crucify the hopes of Labor, brazenly and bold?
Shall the arm of toil be withered without sob or sigh,
Not a tear for Henrietta’s wail, “Will Papa die?”
CHORUS.
When you look upon your babies ’round your hearthstone bright,
Think of Haywood’s tear-faced daughter, think of her tonight.
Make a vow to God in Heaven, to that God on high,
That those boys in Idaho by Greed shall never die.
CHORUS.
