The real facts concerning the strike of the miners on the Mesaba range have been beclouded by misrepresentation and much prejudice aroused against the miners according to Attorney John A. Keyes of Duluth, who is acting as counsel for some of the leaders who have been placed under arrest. Mr. Keyes denounces the mining corporation police, the “gunmen” as termed by the miners, and the courts and daily press in part. Stories from the range have been highly colored Mr. Keyes declares, and so for the sake of justice, he has made the following statement regarding the cause and development of the strike and conditions up to the present time [Part II of statement by Attorney Keyes]:

Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, organizer for the Industrial Workers of the World who recently arrived in northern Minnesota to assist with the strike of the iron miners of the Mesabi Range, on July 15th had published in that organization’s weekly journal, Solidarity, an article on the problems of organizing women. Miss Flynn encourages working women to rebel against the limits enforced against them by the prevailing attitudes which dictate that women should be “lady-like” and stick to tending home and children. Yesterday Hellraisers Journal offered part one of the article; today we conclude with part two.

Denver, Colo., July 13-Sabotage is the new weapon the Denver Domestic Workers’ union will use to reform rich mistresses, Miss Jane Street, organizer, said today. About 1,000 housewives here are listed, their virtues and faults catalogued and classified.

Interesting things happen when an I. W. W. maid or cook arrives in a blacklisted household to train the mistress in the way she should honor and obey her servants.

Mother Jones, known internationally for her defense of organized labor and for agitation for improved labor conditions generally, arrived in Atlanta early yesterday afternoon, direct from Washington, D. C., on a mission, the precise nature of which she declines to reveal. She is scheduled to leave the city this afternoon.

At the train Mother Jones was met by a delegation of union labor friends, headed by Jerome Jones, editor of The Atlanta Journal of Labor, and was taken at once to the Ansley hotel, where she is a guest. During the afternoon she visited the federal penitentiary.

Affecting oratory, poetry and sentimental melodies were mingled by I. W. W. workers last night to touch the hearts and purse strings of the crowd that jammed Finnish hall, at 314 Sixth avenue East. The “collection” was $64.08.

Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, I. W. W. leader and speaker whose presence in Duluth occasioned the meeting, provided the oratory and poetry after Secretary H. E. McGucken of the local organization, aided by the Finnish orchestra, had sounded the sympathetic chord of the audience with anthems.
